Travelers flying out of Atlantic City International Airport will have a new nonstop option to the Caribbean this winter. Breeze Airways is adding direct service to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, with flights set to begin Dec. 16.
The route will run twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with one-way fares starting at $149 during the launch period. It gives southern New Jersey, Philadelphia suburbs, and Delaware residents a direct way to reach the U.S. Virgin Islands without routing through major East Coast hubs.St. Thomas has long been one of the Caribbean’s most accessible winter destinations.
The island combines busy marinas, open-air beach bars, and overlooks across Charlotte Amalie harbor with easy ferry links to St. John. Beaches like Magens Bay and Lindquist draw visitors from morning through sunset, while the East End’s Sapphire and Coki beaches are known for snorkeling.
The new flights land at Cyril E. King Airport, the territory’s primary gateway and one of the busiest Caribbean airports during peak season. For Atlantic City, it’s a notable expansion of warm-weather service, adding to the airport’s growing list of Florida and leisure routes.Breeze’s twice-weekly schedule is aimed at both long weekends and weeklong trips, starting just as winter tourism ramps up. December through March is peak season in the U.S. Virgin Islands, when hotels, restaurants, and marinas see a surge in demand from Northeast and Midwest travelers escaping cold weather.St. Thomas also functions as a hub for island-hopping.
Visitors stay for beaches, nightlife, and resorts, but many use it as a base for day trips to St. John, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and Jost Van Dyke. The U.S. territory status means U.S. citizens don’t need a passport to travel from the mainland, adding to its appeal. The launch is part of Breeze Airways’ broader strategy to connect smaller and mid-sized U.S. airports directly with leisure destinations. For Caribbean tourism, additional nonstop lift is a key driver, and this route adds capacity during one of the region’s highest-demand periods. For accommodations, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort remains a popular choice.
The 74-room, family-owned property sits on St. Thomas’s south shore with rooms opening directly to the beach. It offers an all-inclusive option, catamaran excursions, paddleboarding, and nightly entertainment at its open-air restaurant The Oasis. Its location balances quiet resort living with easy access to Charlotte Amalie and Red Hook. With Breeze Airways starting service in mid-December, reaching St. Thomas from Atlantic City will be simpler for Mid-Atlantic travelers heading to the Caribbean this winter.
